Synopsis
Lucy Cohen's EDGE OF SUMMER is a poignant coming-of-age story filled with the tension of adolescence. Evie (Flora Hylton) travels to Cornwall with her mother (Josie Walker) for a holiday, as her mother grows closer to Tony (Stefan Rhodri), a family friend with potential romantic ties, Evie forms a bond with a local boy, Adam (Joel Sefton-Iongi). Both of them, dealing with absent fathers, find solace in each other’s company. However, their friendship takes a dramatic turn when they uncover hidden truths about the adults in their lives during an encounter in an abandoned tin mine. This debut from Lucy Cohen, following her critically acclaimed and BAFTA-nominated documentary KINGDOM OF US, the narrative also sees Hylton and Sefton-Iongi shine in their debut roles, carrying the emotional weight of the film with a natural ease. Their onscreen chemistry brings warmth and depth to their characters' developing relationship. Walker also delivers a compelling performance as Evie’s mother, grappling with her own emotional struggles. Cohen masterfully blends supernatural elements with the coming-of-age genre, creating a heartfelt and captivating film.
