Synopsis
This intimate exploration of grief and healing marks the feature debut of Désirée Nosbusch, featuring powerful performances by Tim Roth and Trine Dyrholm. Adapted from Lot Vekemans’ award-winning stage play, the narrative focuses on Lucas and Edith, a once-married couple estranged for ten years after Lucas's departure. A mysterious summons from Edith prompts their reunion at a deeply significant place — the graveyard where their only child is buried. As they endure a prolonged wait, their conversation deepens, unearthing past memories and revealing new perspectives on their futures. Showcasing echoes of British dramas such as Terrance Davies DISTANT VOICES, STILL LIVES and early Mike Leigh films, the heart of this compelling chamber piece lies in the chemistry between Roth and Dyrholm, whose nuanced, layered performances bring a delicate authenticity to the story. Ultimately, this film delves into how time can bring hidden secrets to light, offering a poignant drama that lingers long after the credits have rolled.
