Synopsis
Death takes the form of a giant macaw in this idiosyncratic fairytale about acceptance and letting go, featuring a career-defining performance from Julia Louis-Dreyfus. This tender UK/USA co-production follows Tuesday, who is living with a terminal degenerative illness, gradually coming to terms with her fate. While she has reached a place of acceptance, her mother Zora (Louis-Dreyfus) remains trapped in denial, finding solace in pretending that everything is still normal. When Death arrives as a lonely, overworked giant macaw who enjoys classic hip-hop and could use a bath, Tuesday forms an unexpected bond with the spectral visitor. Meanwhile, Zora desperately bargains for more time with her daughter. Filmed in the UK, this debut feature from writer/director Daina O. Pusić presents a unique and whimsical take on the taboo topic of mortality. Her portrayal of Death as a shape-shifting bird is both absurd and touching, navigating the emotional complexities of grief. Louis-Dreyfus delivers the heart and soul of the narrative marking a memorable first feature from a promising filmmaker offering a distinct take on the human condition.
